We are a husband and wife team, Dana and Susan Menne, conscientious hobby breeders of AKC Golden Retrievers in northern Vermont, USA. We have been breeding AKC Golden Retrievers since 1998. This is hobby of passion and labor of our love for the Golden Retriever breed. Our dogs are vital members of our family and live with us in our home, not in kennels. We hope to place our puppies in homes that are interested in providing a full and interesting life for their Golden Retriever where the dog’s needs are an important priorty.
We've built this website for you to get to know us and our Golden Retrievers. We hope you enjoy the photos, videos and informative links. Our life with our dogs keeps us busy and away from technology most of the time. Contacting us can be a challenge. Fore-warning: Susan is not good about keeping up with emails. Dana doesn’t do emails, but does enjoy posting on facebook.
We participate in different venues depending on each dog's needs and talents -- including conformation, tracking, rally, obedience and therapy work. We live on a hill, at the base of Butternut Mountain in Johnson, Vermont, with our butternut colored Golden Retrievers who love to eat butternut squash. Thus, Butternut Hill seemed to be a fitting name for us. Susan has served on the board of the Green Mountain Golden Retriever Club and was the club's President for many years. We have been members of the Golden Retriever Club of America since 1998.
In September 2023, we started collaborating with Doug and Becca Worple of Jeffersonville, Vermont. who in 2021 purchased a beautiful private 275 acre farm in the Green Mountains and named it Golden Dog Farm. On the farm they produce organic maple syrup, honey, a vineyard, fruit trees, berries, nuts and provide a variety of farm tours. They currently own 2 Golden Retrievers, Lenny and Dewey, and a black lab Mara.
Together, with Golden Dog Farm, we have created a "Golden Retriever Experience,” which has received the attention of TikTok & Instagram influencers, Boston’s WCVB Chronicle 5, as well as ABC’s television, Good Morning America: GMA and even People Magazine. We bring our multi-generational family of Golden Retrievers to their farm for an hour long playdate with dog loving people who travel far and wide to experience. We are proud of our dogs’ friendly and calm temperaments. They bring happiness to others where ever we go, something we've done for over 25 years. It is exciting to team up with Golden Dog Farm and with the help of social media we touched more people than we’ve ever imagined.

Golden Retriever Lifetime Study
"The Golden Retriever Lifetime Study is one of the largest, most comprehensive prospective canine health studies in the United States. The Study’s purpose is to identify the nutritional, environmental, lifestyle and genetic risk factors for cancer and other diseases in dogs. Each year, with the help of veterinarians and dog owners, the Foundation collects health, environmental and behavioral data on 3,000+ enrolled golden retrievers.
"...Results will provide comprehensive data on diseases and other health challenges, including cancer. Findings will be used as a launching point for multiple health studies in dogs.”
